I called the HVAC company and told them there was a problem with my furnace.
- I heard some odd noises and wanted to have them checked out.
Two days later, the HVAC technician was knocking on my door. He asked what I was hearing, but he heard the noise himself when the furnace turned on. He asked when I last changed the air filter? I gave him an odd look and he then asked if anyone told me how the air filter worked? I was still wrapping my head around the thought that there was an air filter in the furnace, let alone wondering how it worked. He told me the air filter helped keep the dust from getting into the furnace components. He asked me to show him to the furnace, and he would show me how to change the air filter. He explained about the air filter, and told me I had to change it every six weeks. He saw I was still staring, and he asked what was wrong. I told him that I didn’t know there was an air filter in the furnace. He said there were air filters in the furnace and the air conditioning unit. He sat me down and explained about the air filters and showed me how to change them. When he left that day, I had a new respect for what needed to be done to my HVAC system. I knew how to change the air filters in the furnace and the air conditioning unit, and I had a case of both in my basement. I could take care of my HVAC system in between inspections.
