My brother works in the world of cyber security. He’s been obsessed with computers ever since he was 5. And our parents bought him his first PC when he was 10. Before then he would spend hours at the public library which had computers all people could use. Well, he went on to study computer science with a focus on cyber security. Now, he works for one of the top companies in the country. And I must admit, he drives me a little crazy. Every time we get together, he always has some story to share about cyber security issues around the world. Then, he warns me against giving every site my information because some sell the data to third parties. Well, the other day, I was filling out some information on a HVAC company website and I could hear my brother’s voice at the back of my mind. He always told me to check out the privacy policy before filling in any crucial details. The HVAC company has an amazing online shop and I wanted to be ordering my HVAC needs and wants from them. But, that meant filling in some sensitive information. So, I first had to check and go through their privacy policy. Thankfully, the HVAC company has a good privacy policy so I felt confident filling in my personal information. I wanted to order some HEPA filters since I saw they had a 20% off on their online store. I understand why my brother always wants me to be cautious with online sites and my personal information. We should all do our best to make sure we guard our privacy online.
