Making room for mom

Making room for mom

While the idea of having my mother-in-law live with us is difficult, the reality of the situation is that my associate and I may have no choice.

Our choices in household care are becoming more limited as his mental faculties are slipping farther plus farther away.

She is childlike on most mornings plus makes everyday choices that can be dangerous. We have looked into the idea of having a household health aide stay with him during the hours while my associate and I are at toil but he seems angry when a stranger is in the house. We can’t risk him hurting herself or others either. We need to make some adjustments to our household to make this new arrangement work. The area that my associate and I will be using as an household for his was never intended as a space for someone to live so my associate and I need to add a bathroom, upgrade the space with it’s own heating plus cooling, plus make sure that each exit has an alarmed lock so my associate and I know if he is leaving unattended. By making this safe space my associate and I can hire someone for minimum care such as meal prep plus socialization instead of having a higher level of full on care. If he feels that the man is basically going to see him plus having a meal with him he will be less likely to be aggressive. She would hopefully view them as a friend instead of a caregiver. We evaluated the possibilities of a separate heating plus cooling unit plus my associate and I found that my associate and I can have a mini split unit installed that can be controlled by our phones. My mother-in-law would not have the ability to adjust the temperature on his own so the space would not be too warm or too chilly at any given time. I am sure that this will be the best option for all of us when it is all done.
