Giant, sudden changes normally cause a great deal of anxiety for someone like me.
I have forever been that guy who finds comfort in routine and structure.
The ability to know what is happening each day has been elemental to my personal comfort zone. I wasn’t always this way. There was a time when I was up for just about anything. However, as I grew older, being responsible became a full time job. This resulted in a much more regimented existence. But, all that just went away in the space of a few hours. I got yanked into a meeting to learn that my position with the company I joined nearly 30 years ago was gone. I couldn’t believe it. I was in my HVAC controlled office one minute and then on the street the next. My office was packed into a box while I was in my meeting even. There was a severance package but, my pension was gone. I still had to earn a living so, I made an office in my home. However, the room I chose gets so hot during the day. The HVAC system doesn’t do a very good job of cooling that part of the house. It hangs off by itself and is completely exposed to direct sunlight all day. So, I called the HVAC company to come out put in a dedicated heating and cooling unit in my new home office. The ductless unit was installed within hours. I was amazed at how much of a difference it made. And, it didn’t run all the time. I was even able to adjust the main HVAC so that it worked less now that it didn’t have to cool my office.
