After spending 60 years of our lives in the northern section of the country, our spouse and I had enough of the chilly winters and ungodly amount of snow.
All of us no longer wanted to pay outrageous heating bills, spend hours shoveling and remain trapped in the lake house for more than seven months of the year.
All of us purchased a small lake house down south, and now split our time between the 2 locations. All of us remain up north from May until the end of November and spend the rest of the year at our trip home; Moving back and forth allows us to enjoy the best weather in each spot, then however, the upkeep on 2 homes can be difficult, however when we’re down south, I worry about complications with the heating method in the other house. If the oil furnace should fail, all of us could definitely be dealing with frozen and burst pipes. Temperatures below cold also cause mangle to apartment furnishings and can even cause drywall seams to pop. When we’re up north, I am concerned about an air conditioner failure at the trip home. The extreme heat and humidity is the ideal environment for all sorts of insects, mold and mildew growth. I finally installed a smart control unit in each home. Through Wi-Fi linkivity, I’m able to keep track of the temperature in both residences. An app on our smartphone provides access to all sorts of helpful information. I can make adjustments, track energy use and get alerts for maintenance requirements, power outages and temperature swings. It’s also truly convenient that I can raise or lower the temperature to make sure all of us arrive at a perfectly comfortable house.
