Marcia Marcia Marcia!

Marcia Marcia Marcia!

The late 1960s and early 1970s TV sitcom “The Brady Bunch” was about a combined family with a “lovely lady who was bringing up three very lovely girls” marrying a “man named Brady who was busy with three boys of his own”, a recipe for disaster if there ever was one.

One of the recurring plots was the jealousy of the middle girl “Jan” of her popular older sister “Marcia” causing Jan to lament to her Mom how “Marcia Marcia Marcia” is always getting the bulk of the attention from boys to scholastics and high school social hierarchy.

In a way, I think that air is like Jan and water is like Marcia in a Brady Bunch allegory. Unlike Jan’s griping about Marcia, the air has a valid gripe about water. After all, one can survive several days without water but try to go without air for a few minutes and see what happens. Water only covers 3/4 of the earth but air blankets the entire globe with various layers with most of it in a 10-mile thick layer. Normally the younger sibling is the pest to the older one but in this case, water in the form of water vapor makes life miserable for air, becoming part of the air that we breathe and live in. At least air has a hero in the form of HVAC units that remove a lot of the water from the air to allow us to stay comfortable inside our homes. Aside from getting rid of excess humidity the HVAC unit also filters the air and cools it so that people in homes will hopefully give the air the attention it deserves.
