Something that I regularly looked forward to over the holidays was my grandmother’s cookies. Unfortunately, she passed away last year and it was a heartbreaking moment for many in my family. When the holidays were coming up, I realized something that made me very sad, we weren’t going to get my grandmother’s awesome cookies! I asked everybody if they knew where she kept her recipes and perhaps we could make her cookies. I knew that would feel like she was really there celebrating with all of us. Nobody knew where her recipes were and somebody said they thought she kept all her recipes in her head and didn’t have them written down. I decided to try putting together the recipe from memory to see if I could figure it out. I was baking batch after batch and I had to have the perfect temperature control settings in my house. I finally ended up calling the HVAC company and having HVAC zone control installed in my house because the kitchen was feeling overheated while I was baking constantly. I was happy when I was able to have customized temperature control settings in the kitchen and it made it so I could focus more on perfecting the recipe. I finally had a batch that tasted just like my grandmother’s! When I started having everybody taste the cookies, they agreed. That’s when my brother said he found the recipe book and sure enough I was very close to her exact recipe! There was only one ingredient that I missed which happened to be nutmeg.
