My boss promoted me to the head of training and now it is my job to train all of the new HVAC technicians that join our company.
- I have been with the company for a number of years.
When my boss gave me the promotion, I was happy to finally get out of the day to day grind. I still have to work on HVAC repairs, but now the setting is more like a classroom atmosphere. I’ve been trying to get out of the truck and into an office for the past three years. I had an accident when I was skiing and my knees have not been right since then. It’s very difficult to keep the same pace that I did before the accident. The new promotion means a lot less hard work and more educating. The last group of interns really tried my patience. One of the guys was a real hothead. He didn’t take criticism very well and he wasn’t very cooperative. The guy thought that he knew everything about HVAC repairs. Unfortunately, he had a lot to learn. He didn’t like the advice that I gave him everyday and the guy eventually quit in the middle of an air conditioning system tune-up. I wasn’t sad to see him leave and I think the other interns were also glad that he quit the program. The guy always found a way to make the day feel longer and longer. He had some potential if he would have been quiet and listened. I hope the guy will find an internship somewhere else, but this place wasn’t a very good fit.
