Wait, that’s fibromyalgia?

Wait, that’s fibromyalgia?

I have been overly reliant on my thermostats and my central heating, cooling, and ventilation system as a means to avoid some of the discomfort.

I have an embarrassing admission to make. I wish that I wasn’t about to say this… But I think that I have completely written off a legitimate medical issue based on the poo-pooing opinions of others. For the longest time, I was plagued with very strange ailments and physical discomfort so that seemed to be related to my level of stress. Honestly, I always thought that my stress hormones had a drastic effect on my body which was capable of causing strange digestive issues, pains, and temperature sensitivities. I learned to compensate for my dysregulated temperature control system and systemic issues over time. But I never thought that there was a real medical explanation for the discomfort that I experienced. And then… Somebody mentioned fibromyalgia the other day. It turns out, not only is fibromyalgia related to stress, but it’s related to your temperature regulation system. If you have ever felt like you were irrationally hot or cold compared to your peers in similar indoor air temperature conditions, you may have fibromyalgia. For my entire adulthood I have been brutally hot or cold in air conditions that did not affect other people the same way. I have been overly reliant on my thermostats and my central heating, cooling, and ventilation system as a means to avoid some of the discomfort. I have never had an explanation for these strange physiological temperature dysregulations… Until now. I have to say, I certainly believe that fibromyalgia is a real thing, based in large part on my oddball internal thermostat and uneven temperature regulation system.
