When you grow up in a family like mine, you learn that it’s best to not ask too many questions.

My mom went to jail a few times, her brothers and sisters have all been in and out of the system. My dad had a clean record, until three years ago when he got arrested. I tried to stay clean from all of their dirty dealings, and learned a trade. I am a certified HVAC tech now, although I have been in between jobs for a few weeks. My family name is not well liked in these parts, so if I want to get my foot in the door with a big time HVAC contractor I am going to have to move to a new town. All the HVAC contractors I have spoken with have been very gracious, but insinuated that they would worry about my family stealing from their construction sites. To be fair, that’s a valid concern, my family has a history with stealing building materials, copper wiring, and HVAC equipment. My Uncle Petey actually did six years upstate for hijacking an entire truck filled with portable heaters and driving it across state lines. With a history like that, I understand why a legit HVAC contractor would not want to invite the potential trouble I could bring with me. I guess I will have no choice but to move and start over somewhere else.
