One time when I was only 15, I agreed to babysit a couple of little boys. My parents knew the mother and father and they set up the arrangement. The parents left for a wedding on a Thursday around noon. I was responsible for the children until 9 p.m. that evening. I made the little ones supper and we watched a movie on the TV. I was starting to become entirely exhausted when the smallest child started to cry. I got up and grabbed the baby. It was somewhat cold in that house, so I looked for the temperature control. I couldn’t locate a temperature control anywhere in that dwelling and it was getting colder and colder. I knew the furnace was easily out. I put on my sweatshirt and I made the choice to make a pizza for the boys. I was thinking the oven running would add some sizzling air to the living space. I couldn’t figure out how to work the oven though, and the pizza would not fit in the microwave. When I figured out how to turn on the oven, I popped in the cheese and ham pizza and returned to the youngsters! A few minutes later, I heard a very weird and loud sound coming from the basement. Since my family has a heating appliance, I knew that the sound was certainly not good. I assumed that was the reason why we did not have any heat in the dwelling. I called my father at the condo and I tried to get some advice. He helped me light the pilot light so the heating appliance would come on and heat the dwelling. Thankfully, that fixed the heating problem.
