Our WIFI temperature control was hacked and I didn’t notice it for a long time.

I regularly heard that WIFI thermostats and smart thermostats were super secure.

When my temperature control was doing random things on its own, the thought that it might have been hacked never even crossed my mind. It first started one day when I got home from work. I entered my condo and it felt like I was living inside of a furnace. I was genuinely disappointed because I was looking forward to walking into a cool, air conditioned home. I went to my WIFI temperature control and it said that indeed the furnace was on! I turned off the gas furnace and turned on my central cooling system unit. It wasn’t long before my condo was once again a comfortable temperature. Then, it happened again the next afternoon. In the evening before I go to bed, I regularly go to my WIFI temperature control and turn off the cooling system and turn on the programmable temperature control setting which is linked to both my furnace and my central cooling system. This temperature control will keep my condo at a fantastic temperature all night, but very early the next morning, I woke up to an ice chilly house. I was at least hoping that when I crawled out of bed my feet would hit the heated flooring, however that was not the case. My whole condo felt like an ice box. I called my Heating and A/C provider and soon enough I found out that my WIFI temperature control had been hacked by a person who didn’t like me.
