Our wireless temperature control was hacked and it took a long time for me to realize what was going on.
I always heard that wireless temperature controls and smart temperature controls were super secure, so when my temperature control was doing random things on its own, the thought that it might have been hacked never even crossed my mind.
It first started one day during the summer when I got home from work. I entered my cabin and it felt like I was sitting in an oil furnace. I was easily disappointed because I was looking forward to walking into a cool, air conditioned home. I went to my wireless temperature control and it said that indeed the oil furnace was on! I turned off the oil furnace and turned on my central air conditioning system unit. It wasn’t long before my cabin was once again a comfortable temperature! This happened again the next morning. In the evening before I go to bed, I always go to my wireless temperature control and turn off the a/c and turn on the programmable temperature control setting which is affixed to both my oil furnace as well as my central a/c. This temperature control will keep my cabin at an enjoyable temperature all night! Very early the next morning, I woke up to an ice cold house. I was at least hoping that when I crawled out of bed my feet would hit the warm heated flooring, however that was not the case. My whole cabin felt like an ice box. I called my Heating and Air Conditioning provider and soon enough I found out that my wireless temperature control had been hacked by a woman who didn’t like me.
