I’m new to the south so I’m also new to the differences in heating and cooling. Where I once called home, the focus of all HVAC was on heating. We always had a gas furnace except for the first house my parents had. That house actually still had the old school boiler. The radiant heat was simply marvelous. And I remember just how warm and all encompassing radiant heat can be. With all the focus on heating, air conditioning was sort of an afterthought. Not even half the people I knew had HVAC cooling. That all changed when I got down here. The HVAC priorities are flipped. Heating is the afterthought down here. And rightly so. The winters are so mild that it feels like an extended early fall all winter to me. However, I have to say that I have become a big fan of the heat pump. We actually replaced the HVAC equipment in our house when we moved in. So I was able to learn a lot about the heat pump from the HVAC contractor. And it’s such a very impressive machine. The HVAC cooling process just amazes me. I still find it amazing that the heat pump is actually doing just that. They heat pump starts the HVAC cooling process by moving or pumping the heat out of the house. This makes room for more cooling air to take its place. And as it’s doing this, the heat pump is also balancing the humidity level as well. I’m glad to have the heat pump for the summer though. The HVAC cooling is essential in order to manage the heat and humidity of this area.
