I have started developing my own little niche in the local business scene, and while it used to be a big secret, now it is actually starting to blow up! While I was in trade school, I started doing some odd jobs for a couple of my friends who were growing pot.
It wasn’t anything major, just some electrical work, or a tune up on the heating system, but after a while I knew my way around a marijuana grow room, and it became my specialty.
Fast forward a few years, and now I have my HVAC certification and at the same time cannabis is being legalized. Because of my extensive work history, familiarity with the forms of marijuana cultivation, and my HVAC certification, I have become the top repair tech for pot grows and dispensaries. Back in the day it was more difficult, and the electrical issues were much more problematic than the HVAC issues. Thanks to increased legalization people don’t have to worry about a suspicious power bill as much, but their climate control needs are still just as prevalent. I enjoy working for the dispensaries the most, because they have the money for the best HVAC equipment. For the home based pot farms, money is usually tight, so I do the best I can and usually sell them refurbished HVAC systems. As much as I like helping the little guy, so to speak, the dispensaries spare no expense because they want a science-laboratory-level of air quality control. It is fun for me just to examine and install these high end HVAC systems!
