He spent the last 40 years working as an HVAC specialist plus he was getting tired. I could see that he was uncomfortable with the plan of no longer working, but he had reached the pinnacle of his profession… Our son, who was also an HVAC specialist, was frustrated about his father retiring. For 25 of the 40 years that he had been an HVAC specialist, he was also the owner of the HVAC corporation. Our child had grown up in the HVAC corporation plus he was 1 of the top HVAC specialists in his father’s corporation. When my spouse retired, he asked our child if he wanted to buy the business. He would labor with him for the next two years while our child l gained the business, plus he would take a check instead of our child paying for the business. At the end of the two-years, he would be glad to come back if there was an emergency, but he was hoping to split completely free of the business. Our child appreciated the offer, plus he could not wait to get started. Six weeks later, my spouse announced his retirement to everyone in the HVAC company plus told them that our child would take over the business, and everyone was cheerful with the decision about who was going to be running the corporation. It was his last morning of work, plus I called to tell them that our heating system had quit working. It became a running joke in the HVAC company for the next couple weeks when they realized that the HVAC specialist was taking care of everybody’s HVAC unit except his own.
