The noise was a single mouse trapped in the air vent

When my wife and I moved into our new house, we had two large moving trucks with furniture and boxes.

  • The trucks delivered all of the items to our home.

It took all day to unload both of the trucks. While the crew was working, the front door was open. We did not have the air conditioner running at all. It was a very hot and humid day. After the movers finished unloading the boxes, my wife and I turned on the air conditioner to cool down the house. We started unpacking boxes in the master bedroom. I heard the strangest sound coming from the air vents in the bedroom. It sounded like tiny little footsteps walking on metal. I grabbed a screwdriver from the laundry area and I removed the cover from the vent. I saw two tiny eyes in the corner of the vent. I noticed the animal immediately as a mouse. I did not know how the mouse got into the ventilation system, but my wife and I had an inspection performed before we bought the house and there were no signs of any pest problems in the ductwork or not home. After I coached the mouse out of the air vent, I used a flashlight to look at all of the air vents. I didn’t see any other signs of mice or rodents, but I thought it was best to call an exterminator. The exterminator checked every square footage of the house and did not find any other problems in the ductwork. The exterminator felt that the mouse probably came into the house when we had all of the doors open on moving day.
