Don’t forget HVAC – maintenance for guests

There are so many tasks that go into being a good Hostess.

It feels like the pressures are never ending.

Adding the extra expectations of quote southern hospitality, and we’re talking about a whole lot of extra work before someone stepped foot inside my house. I do my very best to keep the house sparkling clean and full of beautiful things for people to enjoy. However, I do have a pretty busy life and these things go by the wayside and day-to-day business. That being said, I do like to have a professional cleaning lady come out to clean out my entire house before guests are about to arrive. I love the level of detail that a professional cleaner provides. I’m just not that good of a cleaner. The same thing can apparently be said about my air ducts. Honestly, I forgot that they existed. I never cleaned the things. This wasn’t really a problem for me, but it did become a problem for my most recent house guest. From the time that they walked inside my front door, my friend was complaining that her nose was running nonstop. I thought that was strange, considering I don’t have any animals or other allergens in my home. I tried to help her and gave her several allergy medicines, but nothing was really solving the problem. Weeks later when I had my routine HVAC inspection for the year, the HVAC technician made a strange face at one point. He asked me when the last time I had my air ducts cleaned was. I had to bashfully say I had no idea. That’s when he started pulling out chunks of disgusting debris and dirt from my air ducts with his bare hands. “Is there any chance you’ve had some complaints about your air quality,” he asked. I hung my head in shame, the worst hostess in the south.
