You don’t often hear about people who have to call for pest control due to an infestation in their air ducts.
Generally, people have an infestation of bugs or other pests in their walls, or in the attic.
Sometimes, on rare occasion, you might even encounter an infestation of bees! Anything is possible these days, it seems. Not too long ago, I dealt with a pretty outlandish infestation in my air ducts for the HVAC system. It wasn’t bees, roaches, rats or anything like that. No, it was pigeons of all things! It started with a single pigeon, which I could hear scratching around inside of the ductwork. Not only could I hear their presence, but I could smell it too. The air quality inside my house took a sharp turn downhill, as I heard more and more scratching through each day. Finally, I had enough after a few days, and called this heating and A/C service company in the area. I told them what was happening, and that I was convinced there were birds in my ductwork. I expected them to laugh or think I was pulling a prank, but they took my request for help very seriously. In fact, I wound up seeing the HVAC service van in my driveway the following day! Right behind them was an animal control service truck, and the team of contractors came to my front door to talk about the situation with my air ducts. Within an hour, the animal control technicians had the birds out, while the HVAC service technician had the ductwork cleaned out!
