I don’t know when it started, but I know that my furnace recently stopped making the same sounds that I had grown accustomed to.

Apparently, I’ve been listening to the same comforting and repetitive thumps and whizzing sounds for several years now. It’s not the sort of noises that you actually pay attention to throughout your day, but the background sounds of the HVAC system definitely became an unintentional soundtrack to my life. I spend a great deal of time at home because I’m an introverted homebody by nature. I work my job remotely most of the time and I enjoyed being in the comfort of my own beautiful space. That being said, I utilize my HVAC system a great deal. Not a day goes by that I don’t utilize the furnace or air conditioning system for several hours at a time. I do my best to take care of the heating and cooling system, but for the most part it doesn’t give me any trouble. Until recently. I was at home, working as normal, when I realized that my environment seemed too quiet. Something was missing. Eventually, it dawned on me that the furnace wasn’t making the same repetitive melodic knocking sounds that I had grown used to. There was a different sound coming through the air vents, and it didn’t sound good. When I held my hand up to the HVAC system, it was creating hot air, despite the strange noises I was hearing. It’s been several weeks of this unfamiliar HVAC playlist, and I’m still not used to it. I hope that my ears adjust to the new sounds of my heating and cooling system.
