I wasn't going to stand there and let her yell at me

My boss believes that it is important to treat all of our customers with respect.

I think it is important too, but I’m absolutely not going to stand there and let someone yell and scream in my face. On Monday I had an air conditioner tune-up service. The air conditioner was in pretty bad shape. I told the customer that she should probably start thinking about a new air conditioner for the house and she went berserk. I told the woman that I was only trying to be helpful and give her a heads up. I fixed the problem with the air conditioner and it was working when I was finished with the repair. The heads up and information about buying a new air conditioner was just me trying to be nice. I could have kept that information to myself and let the customer find out on her own as a surprise. I honestly think that is kind of a mean thing to do, which is why I decided to tell the customer about the air conditioner. She called me every name in the book and accused me of trying to lie, cheat, and steal. I tried to leave the house and she blocked the door so she could continue to yell at me. I finally had enough. I told the customer to get out of my way or I was going to call the police. She moved out of my way and then she contacted the air conditioner repair service where I work and told my boss that I tried to hit her. Thank goodness my boss knew that wasn’t true. I could have lost my job just because the woman was having a mental breakdown.
