I enjoy playing make believe and reading books. I enjoy teaching the kids about colors, shapes, and their letters and numbers. I have been teaching for the past 5 years and all of that time has been at the same school and in the same classroom. Last winter we started having trouble with the heater in the classroom. Sometimes the heater would work and sometimes it would not. Sometimes the machine wouldn’t cut off until it was 80 in the classroom. One time in particular, the heater never shut off and I had to take the kids outside for a break in the middle of the day. The classroom was too hot for the kids to concentrate. The boys wanted to take off their shirts and the girls were taking off their shoes. The kids were uncomfortable and I didn’t feel great either. I had already contacted the maintenance office three times that day, but I called the principal this time to report the problem and I told her that it was 97° in the classroom. I was taking the kids outside for an extra recess and the problem with the heater had to be fixed in order for the kids to come back into their room. She agreed that the maintenance staff were not working hard enough to get the problem resolved. She promised to figure out a way to get the problem solved today or the next day. She told me to open up a window in the classroom until she could figure something out.
