I hate taking my car to be serviced. It’s one of those responsibilities that I procrastinate with as long as possible because I detest it so much. It is such an inconvenience to drive my car, hassle with the mechanic, and then drive back. It doesn’t sound as terrible as it feels. The worst part about the whole ordeal is talking to the mechanic about what I want done. 99% of the time, I’m taking my car because my check engine light has come on and I need to get the oil topped off or my car will stop running. This last time I took my car was no exception. I’d driven around as long as I could before I thought my car would stop running due to the insufficient oil. As expected, the mechanic told me that I should have my air filter replaced. I immediately told him no, but he insisted that the air filter needed to be replaced. When I still wouldn’t budge, he took out the air filter and brought it over to me. I was shocked by what I saw! I could no longer see the mesh filter because it was covered in thick dust and debris. The dust was actually black and it was hanging off of the air filter. The mechanic said that if I wasn’t going to replace the air filter, I would have to run the car without one because there was no use putting the old one back in. Once I saw the terrible condition of the air filter though, I agreed to have it replaced. It was only a few extra dollars!
