Why I love heated flooring

When it comes to heating systems, I think the best option is radiant flooring.

With a forced air system, you are going to encounter some issues.

With air heating, it typically goes through ductwork which means dust is involved. Unless you are on it with ductwork cleaning, the indoor air quality is usually packed full of dust, dirt and hair. Another con of air heating is that the heated air tends to rise towards the ceiling. Then you have cold spots through the house and need to up the thermostat in order to feel warmer. Furnaces and fireplaces also require quite a bit of care. Since dust gets inside the system too, it is easy for them to overheat. Regular maintenance and repairs comes hand in hand with a forced air system. To avoid all those issues I chose to do my whole home in radiant flooring. I got a boiler system and placed it in my basement. Next I had piping attached to the boiler system where hot water flows through the pipes. The pipes are actually installed within my current floorboards. Every space, corner and edge gets equal heating because of the installation. Heating with water means that it is quiet, efficient and much cleaner. Also, everything that is touching the current floors feel warmer as a result. The couch, chairs and rugs all feel heated because of it. There is heating service required on this system, but it is just a yearly check up. That is the only thing that heated flooring really needs.
