No more AC is punishment

No more AC is punishment

My coworker has a strange idea of corporal punishment.

She thinks it is a fun and great punishment to take away climate control in her house.

We were sitting down to have lunch together yesterday, and she told me a crazy story. Her son got into trouble at school, when he was teasing some of the other kids. The kid is only in fourth grade, but they take that stuff seriously. He received detention from the school, but his mom didn’t think that was enough. She decided to take the AC unit out of his bedroom. If you ask me, I thought it seemed a little harsh, especially during the middle of the summer. We are almost at the end of the school year, and the temperatures outside are incredibly hot and humid. I would never punish my child by taking away the AC unit. I don’t have any idea what type of relationship my coworker and her son have, but it doesn’t seem very healthy. I understand the need to punish your child for bad behavior, but it seems that AC is no longer a luxury when the outdoor temperatures are hot enough to cook an egg. The outdoor weather was 80% humidity yesterday and the outdoor temperature was 91 degrees. If we lived in the middle of the frozen tundra, I wouldn’t take away the heat. I often wonder what the department of children and family would say about the actions, but I don’t want to open a can of worms with my coworkers. I have to work with her everyday, and I need to mind my own business.
