Warning my mother not to touch the thermostat doesn’t work

I came home from work, when the outside temperature was 86 degrees, and my heating system was running.

I am a single mom with three small children, a full-time job and a home to take care of. Money is extremely tight and there aren’t enough hours in the day. My mother recently moved in with me to help out. This is a beneficial situation for the both of us. My mother was struggling to keep up with the demands of her larger home and feeling rather lonely living by herself. I obviously needed someone to pitch in on expenses, watching the kids, cooking meals and cleaning. For the most part, this has worked out really well. The kids absolutely love having their grandmother around to play with them. I know I can rely on my mother to be good to them, and she’s enjoying the time with her grandkids. Our only difficulty was with the thermostat. When she first moved in, I explained the operation of the smart thermostat to my mom. The thermostat is a touchscreen and includes features such as occupancy sensors, voice control and energy tracking. I’ve set up a program and the thermostat handles adjustments of the temperature automatically. It makes sure to conserve energy when rooms are empty and optimizes comfort wherever we are. I told my mother there would be no reason for her to ever touch the thermostat. She still felt the need to mess with it. I came home from work, when the outside temperature was 86 degrees, and my heating system was running. The house was so overheated that my mother had opened up all the windows. Not only was I paying for heating in the summer, but the heat was allowed to escape. My mother insisted that she hadn’t touched anything. She wanted me to believe that the thermostat had decided to switch from air conditioning to heating on its own.
