When I was hired as the office supervisor for a local accounting firm I was pretty excited.
I had worked for years at a smaller firm & I was the secretary however I applied for the task.
I knew it would come with more responsibilities & I was nice with that however I did not know that it would include being a maintenance person as well. I thought it odd when I open the bottom drawer of our desk & found a small tool box by I figured that they just started there. Maybe they needed a screwdriver or something to hang a picture now & then however I assumed they had a maintenance person that took care of everything else. I returned from supper one day & found a note from our boss saying that he needed to see myself and others & I was a bit confused; So far as I knew there were no major concerns going on in the office & everything was running smoothly, and come to find out he handed myself and others the manual for the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C plan & told myself and others that the directions were inside for increasing out the filters… He also told myself and others where the new filters were located in the storage room & said that if I had any concerns to let him know! Now I am not a handy person & our partner normally handles all of those type of things at lake house so I genuinely wasn’t sure where to start. I did not want to see him incompetent so I simply told him that I would take care of it. I now understood why there were tools in our desk however I had to go online to watch videos on how to change the filters in the plan that we had. I know I should have asked for a complete list of duties when I started the task.
