Can your thermostat go bad?

You may not give much thought to your home thermostat.

The product is responsible for controlling your home’s temperature and maintaining a consistent amount of comfort each day.

Most residents use a home thermostat daily and adjust it based on their preferences. When maintaining its features, it’s important to know if home thermostats can be defective. There may be times when a home thermostat can be unresponsive as you attempt to set the home’s temperature. Try replacing the batteries, which may be causing the lack of power and operation. Thermostats are prone to going bad when the set temperature does not match the home’s temperature. This is normal if you have a home that’s zoned, but the temperatures shouldnt frequently fluctuate on their own. This is a common sign that the thermostat has reached the end of its life span. The HVAC system may continuously run and stay on even if you attempt to turn the heating or cooling feature off on the thermostat. This issue may be due to frayed or damaged wires if the thermostat is miscalibrated. In some cases, the HVAC system may also fail to turn on and no longer respond to the thermostat. If there aren’t any changes to the home’s internal temperature when you make changes, it can mean that the thermostat is no longer operating. Short cycling is a common problem when thermostats begin to have issues and are no longer reliable. The HVAC system can start to shut off too early and doesn’t perform a full cooling or heating cycle as it operated. You may notice that the home doesn’t feel as comfortable throughout the day or night, even when you adjust the thermostat multiple times. A technician can inspect the thermostat and diagnose the issue to ensure that the operation is restored with the necessary repairs or replacement.
