An expensive summer

An expensive summer

This summer is getting pretty expensive.

It has been the kind of heat that doesn’t just make you hot while you are outside, but it sticks with you through the day.

They say that once you overheat one time, you are much more susceptible to it happening again. This is certainly heat stroke weather, so I hope everyone is drinking lots of water and staying inside. My wife overheated a few weeks ago, and hasn’t been the same since. She works that thermostat like a lunatic, which is why this summer has been getting so expensive. I understand how important climate control is during extreme weather, but she seems to think that A/C is a magical, endless source of cooling. Even the nicest, newest air conditioners have their limits, so you have to use them wisely, and not try and push them too hard. If it is over ninety degrees outside, you will not be able to get your air conditioner to cool your house down to sixty degrees. The laws of thermodynamics prevent it, so the HVAC system will work hard all day, never shutting off, trying to reach a temperature it can never reach. Eventually this will wear out parts and pieces of the complex HVAC system, and make it perform poorly, or shut down altogether. I had to explain all of this to my poor wife, so she understood why she couldn’t set the thermostat to 60 degrees. If the air conditioning shut down on us, even for a day, then we would all get heat stroke!
