There are times when things tend to sort of get by me. And it always happens when I’m just too busy and too scattered to get everything done. Any working parent and spouse can attest to just what this feeling is all about. There are times that I’m so hurried that I catch myself coming and going. All I really want to do is just sit down in the air conditioning for a bit and catch my breath. Well, it’s stuff just like that air conditioner that gets pushed back and pushed back until it’s forgotten sometimes. But in my case, it was the gas furnace. We live in a region where the winter is no joke and preparation of the house and HVAC equipment are key. Normally, I get the heating maintenance in early fall just so it’s done and out of the way. This past year was so crazy with the kids at home learning and we’re trying to work from home as well that I plain forgot. I didn’t call the HVAC company to have the heating maintenance done. So of course, we are in the depths of the cold and snow when the gas furnace goes out as we are sitting down to dinner. This was not something that I could wait on. I had to call the HVAC company that night and pay the emergency HVAC service fee. That stung but not quite as much as the sting from the information I received from the HVAC technician. Had I gotten the heating maintenance done, that breakdown simply would not have occurred.
