Overheating on the golf course

Nick August 23, 2021

I pushed it too hard on the golf course and overheated, and it ruined my week.

Here’s the deal, my wife took the kids to see her parents for a week-long vacation.

She wanted me to stay behind and have my own vacation, which was very kind of her. Of course with total freedom the first thing I did was go to the golf course and played for 12 straight hours! This left me dehydrated and weak, and I was bedridden for two days afterward. When I went back, still wanting to golf, I had to take it easy so I didn’t overheat again. I found that after leaving the air conditioning of the clubhouse, I very quickly became sluggish and tired in the hot sun. I had flashbacks to the sun poisoning from the days before, and rushed back into the air conditioned clubhouse to have some water and sit down. And so it went for the rest of the afternoon, I would make a few putts on the practice green and then come back to sit in the A/C. One of the pros on staff told me if I kept pushing it then it would take even longer to get back out there, so I needed to stay in the climate control as much as possible for a few days. That was a hard pill to swallow, because I felt like I was losing precious golf time, but the guy was right and a constant stream of cooling air was all that kept me feeling like normal.
