Protecting the air quality of my home

Protecting the air quality of my home

Nick August 23, 2021

After the big COVID scare, I got a lot more concerned about the air that I breathe.

I have a wife with asthma, as well as a two year old toddler who may have breathing problems one day herself.

Once that pandemic came along, we got a little paranoid and took the quarantine extremely seriously. We are taking the threat of the virus resurging very seriously as well, but this time we are better prepared. We had our entire house re-insulated, meaning that fresh new insulation was added in the exterior walls, and up in the attic. Then we had an HVAC system upgrade, to a more energy efficient model that was better at filtering out detritus from the air. The results were two-fold, because the A/C ran a lot less, and yet the house stayed so much cooler. Also, the air was fresher and cleaner, thanks to not one but two different HEPA air filters installed in the system. There had been a thorough cleaning of the air ducts and vents, and then clean air filters installed in two different places. This ensured that we had the cleanest possible air quality in our home, and they even scheduled a follow up in 6 months to make sure everything was still pitch perfect. COVID is making a comeback, they say, but this time around I feel like my house, and my family, has an extra layer of protection thanks to this enhanced HVAC system. As long as the power is on, we are protected, but maybe I should invest in a geothermal heat pump just in case.
