My hands were frozen by the end of the day

Nick September 21, 2021

I had to work outside on a construction project on Friday and Saturday. I rarely take construction projects during the winter months, because the temperatures are so cold and frigid. There is frequent snow on the ground in the middle of October, so I stop taking projects around Halloween and I resume the construction business after the snow starts to melt. A friend of mine needed some help with a construction project and he asked me for some assistance. I didn’t have anything else planned, so I agreed to help on Friday and Saturday. Even though the sun was shining, it was only 17 degrees outside all day. I had two pairs of wool socks on my feet and a pair of long underwear under my jeans. I would have worn a heavy winter jacket, but it keeps me from working comfortably. My hands were frozen by the end of the day. When I finished on Friday, I went right home and sat in front of the radiator for 30 minutes. My body felt like a popsicle. It took a long time before I felt warm enough to remove all of my extra layers of clothing. I slept with the space heater running all night in my bedroom. I couldn’t stop shivering after spending all day outside in the cold. I put the space heater right next to the bed and pointed the air vents in the direction of my face. After working outside in the cold air, I was reminded of the reasons why I never take construction projects during the winter months.
