What I knew about indoor air quality as it related to health issues was basically zilch. This was just not something that I knew anything about nor really cared to. But that was sort of an ignorant approach on my part. And logic pretty much ensures that what you breathe in would greatly impact your health. I also didn’t know how much the HVAC equipment can effect the indoor air quality either. However, I would learn all about it and from the most unlikely source. I had noticed over the last several years that I would end up with a cold that just took forever to go away. Or there would a cough that I couldn’t quite kick. Finally, it was a succession of sinus infections that sent me to the doctor. I was prepared to hear that I was in bad shape and needed to change my lifestyle then take the meds. While I did get a bit of a lecture on my weight, I didn’t get the prescription that I was sort of counting on. Instead, I got a whole bunch of questions about my indoor air quality that I just couldn’t answer. The doctor explained it all to me about how important indoor air quality is to our respiratory health as well as our immune response. And she told me that my HVAC equipment might be part of the problem. She suggested I switch to a HEPA filter and call the HVAC company to have the ductwork cleaning done in my home. That’s exactly what I did and I have to say that all those respiratory troubles are now gone.
