There was something going wrong with my thermostat, but I wasn’t really sure what it was.

I ended up feeling really stupid whenever I finally found out the real issue.

Every single night, I found myself waking up sweating and burning hot. I would have to throw off all the covers and actually get up and open a window or turn on the fan and this is the middle of winter! I thought it was so weird that I was having these terrible hot flashes in the middle of the night until I realized that the heating was actually turning on and running for hours at a time in the night while I was sleeping. I didn’t even think to check the thermostat because whenever I went to bed or got up the thermostat settings were right where I had left them and my house was comfortable and cool. I don’t even like using the heat very much in the winter and I tend to keep the thermostat set around 65 degrees or so, year round. So whenever I realized what the issue was, I was very surprised. See, the thermostat is relatively new and I will admit that I didn’t take that much time to familiarize myself with the way that it worked when I first had it installed by the HVAC technician. He tried to tell me what I needed to do to make sure the settings were right, but I really wasn’t listening. I guess I should not have been surprised when I found out that the heating settings were preset to turn on and run during the night when I was sleeping!
