When I had an HVAC technician over to the house to check out the electric furnace for me last week, I ended up really embarrassing myself.
I never ever change the air filter in my furnace and I ended up ratting myself out because of it.
I just don’t ever really think about the air filter for some reason. It’s not ever something that I take into account whenever I’m doing errands and so I just never have an air filter. I don’t ever go to the home improvement store, either, and so I don’t have the opportunity to purchase one. Anyway, my furnace didn’t seem to be putting out very much heat and I didn’t know why. It’s been really cold around here for the past couple of weeks and I really needed to use the heating more. The temperature in the house wouldn’t get past 67 degrees for some reason and I just couldn’t get warm. So I called the local HVAC company to have them come out to look at the furnace for me. When the HVAC technician got there, the house was really cold and I had on a big fluffy sweater. I asked him to get the furnace going because I was freezing. He asked me when the last time was that I changed the furnace filter and I lied and said that it was pretty recent. Then he went down to the basement and took the air filter out and it was so caked with dirt and dust that it could literally stand up all by itself.
