For the last ten years, I have had an HVAC service and repair agreement with the HVAC company. I was grumbling about the cost of the agreement, because the cost had been going up a little more every year. When my husband and I moved, we had to find a new HVAC company. The company we had been using was over fifty miles from our new home. I was certain they wouldn’t drive all the way out of the city just to do our servicing. We looked to see who had previously serviced the HVAC system in our new home, and we called them. I wanted to have air conditioning serviced before summer arrived. I couldn’t believe how much it cost to have the air conditioning unit serviced. The price was almost twice what I paid for our service agreement at the old HVAC company, and it serviced the furnace and air conditioning unit for two years. I talked to the HVAC technician and asked about their service and repair plans. He looked at me like I had three heads. He wasn’t sure if they had service and repair plans. I had to call the HVAC company and talk to the manager. When I talked to the manager, he said they didn’t have service agreements, but I could purchase an extended warranty. Since the HVAC system had been previously used, he wasn’t even sure if I could purchase an extended warranty. When I said no thank you, he asked if we would be interested in a new HVAC system at which time they would offer a service agreement for us to sign.
