Last week I went to work every day and I repaired three furnaces.
I serviced four air conditioning units and helped with the installation of one complete HVAC system.
Along with all of these everyday jobs, I assisted with emergencies and inventory. I’m not sure why, but when I got back to work on Monday, my boss gave me a gold star for the excellent job I did. I was a bit confused because I was thinking I was an adult at my workplace. I didn’t realize I was back in kindergarten again. When I walked into the boss’s office, I asked about the gold star. He explained that he was trying to find a way to get the HVAC technicians to work a bit harder and not sit around when there wasn’t an actual HVAC job to do. chuckled and asked if the gold star was right for adults, and he shrugged. If someone earned more than ten stars, they could get half a day off work with pay. He thought it was an excellent incentive, and I had to agree. winked and told him I would work even harder if I got a full day off with pay. Two days later, he had a mandatory meeting with all employees of the HVAC company. It didn’t matter if you were an HVAC technician or a regular employee. Everyone had the opportunity to earn paid days off if they gave over 100% they could earn gold stars. Every ten stars gave you a day off with pay. I couldn’t believe he used my idea.
