I hate to deliver bad news, but it is an unfortunate part of my job.
Most of the time, I have to deliver bad news to customers.
That is one unfortunate part of working in a repair service. If I can’t repair that machine, it’s going to be very expensive to replace it. Last Monday, I was working with a customer downtown. SheI was hopeful that I would be able to fix the furnace, but things didn’t look good from the start. I warned the customer that she was probably going to need to replace the entire furnace. I know she was hopeful that I was wrong. She seemed surprised and very distraught when I gave her the bad news. She was even more upset when I told her how much it was going to cost to replace the furnace. The woman started crying and I did not know what to do. It was the first time a customer ever started crying when I gave them bad news. I felt awful, but there was nothing that I could do to help solve the problem. That woman did not choose to replace the furnace at that time. I think she needed some time to digest all of the information. A couple of days later, the same woman called to schedule an appointment for the furnace installation. She asked for me by name. I thought she was upset with me after I gave her the bad news, but she wanted me to be the person to install the machine. I was happy to provide those services.
