My poor cat! The heat is intense in my area. Everyday this week is in the 90s and he is in a fur coat. My cat loves being outdoors though. My husband constructed a special cat flap in the living room window so that he can come in and out as he pleases. My husband also made cat stairs to the flap so that it is easier for his joints. Basically my cat likes to lay on the front porch in the morning, our side cement pad in the afternoon and in the evening he likes to walk around and hunt. He rarely comes inside. Sometimes he likes to do a treat break where he begs for a snack, eats a bit of real food, has a drink and then goes back outside. He isn’t all that interested in being indoors. With the severe heat he has been taking AC breaks. I have started to notice that during the peak of the day he will come inside more often than not for the cooling system. He will flp down on the cold tile and just lay there for a bit. The best thing is that I figured out his favorite spot on the rug is actually under one of the vents. So my cat walks over to a prime cooling spot to chill down his fur. I am proud of him for knowing his limits and taking a little air conditioning break. While he is inside I try to get him to drink and to make him linger a bit longer. Just sitting under the AC vent for a minute isn’t good enough. I try brushing him, playing with the string and petting him to get his fur cooler.
