There is always that one room in every good sized, older house that just is uncomfortable.

Either the HVAC ductwork layout is old or there’s an insulation issue perhaps.

But there is always a space where the rest of the family sort of just passes by or it becomes a junky storage area. We have the latter. The room I just spent the last two years working inside and is now my permanent office was just a storage locker. And that’s because this room is exposed on three sides and gets direct sunlight heating all day. If the thermostat is set at 78 during the day, that space was more like 88. We simply kept the door shut. Well when I got sent home from the zone controlled HVAC of the office at the beginning of the pandemic, I had nowhere else to have privacy. So I cleaned it out, wore shorts and a tee shirt and set a couple of fans in there as well. It wasn’t exactly pleasant but it sure was better than fighting over the kitchen table like the rest of the family. I just have to have some modicum of quiet and privacy to focus. That’s one thing that I immediately didn’t miss about the way things were inside that zone controlled HVAC of the office. Talk about interruptions and distractions! I had to literally turn my back on my colleagues and put in headphones sometimes. Well, I just had the HVAC company add a ductless heat pump to what is now my permanent home office.
