It’s just getting more and more tough to recognize the region, country and community that I live in these days.
And that sounds like something straight out of old man 101.
But that’s for sure the way I’m feeling these days. I was out for a walk the other night to catch a sunset. I was walking by my neighbors and he was out doing something by his HVAC equipment. Normally, I’ve got my earbuds in and just don’t like to have conversation so I just wave and move on. But I was curious as to what he was doing and then, he waved me over. I’m an engineer by trade and those who know that are always asking me to figure something out. That’s just what my neighbor wanted as he was trying to install a cage over the HVAC cabinet that would lock down to the concrete pad. So I had a look and was able to help him see what he was missing pretty fast. When I inquired into why the lockdown of the HVAC equipment, he told me that this is the latest fad theft in our community. Desperate folks are ripping apart HVAC cabinet for a handful of copper. That’s right, they’re destroying hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars worth of HVAC equipment to get to the copper fittings. And those copper fittings will then fetch pennies on the dollar from black market copper buyers. It’s just the dumbest thing ever. I had to sort of pick up my jaw at the end of my neighbor’s story. However, by the time I was back from my walk, I was thinking I’d go online to see about ordering one of those cages for the HVAC equipment.
