I keep trying to remember that at least I got the whole family out to enjoy the leaves on a camping trip, and the fact that I had to make so many concessions just to make that happen has to be secondary to the main goal, but still, I can’t believe I agreed to bring along a space gas furnace on a camping trip, but when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to get out of the a/c of home and out to the woods.
My Mom was a big proponent of balancing life with some nature time.
So she and I would go camping a lot and leave dad at home inside the central a/c, and I’m sure he enjoyed having that time to himself as well. I saw many attractive leaf seasons thanks to my Mom! And this was something I wanted my children to experience. I was so happy when I first brought up the idea to the family. And I was instantly dejected by how little interest my family had in leaving the a/c of our home for a camping trip. My kids need the internet and the heating and cooling comfort of home a bit too much in my opinion. That was made even more clear when the whining began about going camping, however I held firm because I knew this would be a really cool experience for them. There’s nothing like seeing peak color during leaf season where I come from. But to get that done, it included packing a space heater. We had to go to a campground with bathrooms, showers and electricity, then essentially, we chose to go RV camping however at least we were outside and the leaves were magnificent. So I’m just going to focus on that.
