Why So Angry HOA?

Why So Angry HOA?

The meeting came around and the entire room was full to capacity with angry neighbors.

I have the kindest little old lady living right next door to my home. She’s a pleasure to be around and just the best neighbor. There is something about the way she is able to be so attentive and kind without overstepping privacy. My entire family adores her and I’m lucky I have someone nearby I can trust implicitly. She has been on her own for nearly a decade now. In fact, we moved in just as she was meeting this transition. Perhaps having us next door provided her with a bit of family. She’s even a bit of a grandma to my youngest. So, it was with shock and anger that I reacted to a stupid letter from our HOA. The letter demanded that this awesome lady replace her heating and cooling system. If she didn’t comply within 21 days she would then accrue a fine of $250 per day. I know HOA compliance is important but this was just callous. We’re talking about a lady in her late 80’s. Not a bit of respect shown by the HOA concerning their perceived HVAC compliance. The HOA stated her HVAC system was in disrepair and in poor condition. I was too loud, too old and the style of the condenser unit did not fit in. Well, I was livid. I immediately started an email chain to all of my neighbors. I informed them all of the situation and pleaded with them to show up to the next HOA meeting. This type of treatment of a beloved neighbor would simply not stand. The meeting came around and the entire room was full to capacity with angry neighbors. It must have scared the HOA board badly. They not only withdrew their demands, they crafted a letter of apology to our sweet neighbor. She had tears in her eyes later when I showed up to paint her condenser cover.
