I was so embarrassed.

I was so embarrassed.

We rented a big cabin in the mountains for our winter getaway.

  • We found the advertisement online, and it promised seclusion with hunting and ice fishing opportunities nearby.

Neither my husband nor I were really interested in hunting or ice fishing, we wanted pictures. We are both nature photographers, me by vocation and my husband by hobby, and we were really intrigued with the change of scenery this cabin had to offer. So, we rented it for two weeks. The cabin was a rustic four bedroom with a big stone fireplace and wood burning stoves or heaters or whatever they are. It was really inconvenient to have to keep the stoves and fireplaces stoked in order to stay warm. We couldn’t do that because good pictures require long hikes sometimes. But, to be honest, we had only walked and taken pictures the first two days. The change of scenery was not all that it was cracked up to be because everything was covered in snow. But, we did spend quite a bit of time outside, walking, sledding, playing like kids. We even built a snowman and some snow forts and had a snowball fight. But, everytime we went too far from the cabin for too long, we had to deal with a cold cabin when we got back. I was upset with the owner. Every morning we woke up cold and stayed that way until the fires heated up the place. And this was a large cabin, keeping the fires stoked was a lot of work. After about a week of this, I decided to text the owner about my unhappiness. He texted me the location of the thermostat! Apparently, the cabin was actually heated with radiant heated floors and we had just assumed the worst. I was so embarrassed.
