It would have left me blind in that eye
I almost lost our eye at work this week! My coworker plus I went to a ventilation job to replace 6 ft of ductwork. My coworker was breaking the sheet metal plus I was welding the pieces together, but all of us finished 3 feet of ductwork before supper. After tacos plus burritos, we went back to the job to finish the rest of the work, i was laboring next to our coworker, however he was breaking the sheet metal while I used a small torch to weld the pieces together in the shape of a square, somehow a piece of sheet metal came flying out of his hand plus hit me right in the face… Thankfully, our instinct was to raise our hands in front of our face. The thick piece of metal hit me right in the face plus missed our eye socket by a millimeter. I had a big gash down the side of our face plus I was bleeding badly. I left the ventilation jobsite to go directly to the emergency room. I could barely see, however I managed to find our way to the hospital. I had to get 3 stitches near our left eye plus the doctor said I was really lucky that the metal did not hit our eye directly. It would have left me blind in that eye. My boss told me to be more careful, however I do not think what we could have done differently to avoid the accident altogether. It really was a single of those freak accidents that you can’t proposal to avoid because they shouldn’t happen at all.
