A couple of years ago my daughter picked up roots and moved away from the city she was born and raised in.
She now lives about 5 hours away from me. It’s not very far, and I think she really likes it. I will say that there is absolutely no need to use a heater down there. Up here, where I live, we do have a little bit of time when it’s necessary to turn the heating on. Most of the time, like the rest of the state, we use air conditioning. Every so often around my house though, it’s time to flip the thermostat from cooling to Heating. Anyway, my daughter bought a small, old fashioned house made from CBS block. For the most part, CBS block is a good insulator, so it should not be too terribly expensive to operate Heating and Cooling. Unfortunately, though, my daughter discovered that it gets so hot where she lives that the air conditioning has a hard time keeping up. The fact that the AC runs all the time without stopping is reflected in her Heating and Cooling bill from the city. Utilities run quite High oh, and there are lots of taxes on them in her City. After living with high air conditioning bills for about a year, she started setting the thermostat higher than she normally would. That is not ideal, of course. She found it especially hard to sleep with those higher thermostat settings. That’s when she decided to get supplemental cooling for her bedroom. I suggested a mini split air conditioner. She likes the idea, but a window air conditioner with so much cheaper she just went with that. And she is happy with it.
