The time has come to make a decision.
The house I live in has a crawl space underneath it, which is very common in all different parts of the country.
My house was built in 1929, so it was extremely common in those days to have a crawl space under the house. Because of that crawl space, though, it has been a challenge to keep my ductwork operating properly. Two different times I have had animals get under the house and help themselves to some free air conditioning by tearing holes in my ductwork. One time it appeared to be simply feral cats. There was no evidence of any other kind of animals being under there. The second time, though, there seemed to be a variety of Critters making themselves at home and kicking their feet up on their little sofas and enjoying my AC. Anyway, even though I have had people come in and patch up the way they were getting under the house, they have found a way to do it again. Now I am considering getting a mini split air conditioning unit that is completely ductless. This will eliminate the common problem of getting my ductwork messed up by animals. However, I still have to talk to the HVAC guy to see if a mini split AC unit is really a good idea for my house. Since my house is old, it is not the open floor plan that is so popular today. There are several rooms in my house, and I’m not sure if I would have to hang a mini-split AC in each room or what.I’ve got some decisions to make about air conditioning.
