I live states away from dad and we still speak every other day with my dad. I am in the know about all the going in dad’s life as he is to mine. Over the past few weeks, dad has been complaining about his dual-fuel system. Though both fuels are available, the unit will not switch from the electric furnace to using oil as a fuel. It has also become inefficient over the years. It no longer provides quality heating as it used to. Dad confirms that the unit was installed almost twenty years ago. He remembers this because the neighborhood heating contractor handled the installation before he relocated his heating business to another state. Dad was his last job before he set out. As we spoke, I suggested that he thinks of replacing his heating equipment. It seemed that his current unit was suffering from old age. I advised him to visit a reliable HVAC supplier in the area to get a suitable suggestion. Dad was adamant that the HVAC professionals would be expensive and he was thinking of purchasing a unit from a cheaper source. This I knew was a mistake as he risked getting substandard systems. I linked dad to a heating technician friend of mine who recommended a ductless HVAC for dad’s home. The expert even took dad to the homeowner’s solutions to purchase the ductless heat pump which was on sale. The expert also shared the required heat pump service steps including an annual furnace/heater tune-up. Dad later confirmed that he got quality service even though at a slightly high price.
